Newt Gingrich’s appearance at a suburban Orlando polling place resulted in a flip-flop wearing Ron Paul supporter getting into a scuffle with Gingrich’s aides. The results: stepped-on toes and a demand for an apology from the Paul campaign.

Eddie Dillard, 29, was attempting to angle a large Ron Paul sign behind Gingrich’s head on Tuesday morning in Windermere, when Gingrich’s security detail confronted him, according to a report from Yahoo News.

A security agent ground his heeled shoe into Dillard’s bare foot, but Dillard stood his ground. “Just block him!” a Gingrich campaign aide said. “Everyone step on his toes!”

Paul campaign chairman Jesse Benton issued a statement Monday afternoon calling on Gingrich to terminate the staffers and publicly apologize.

“They say the culture of an organization is a reflection of its top executive and today’s deplorable behavior against Ron Paul supporter Eddie Dillard in Florida reflects very poorly on Congressman Gingrich,” Benton said.
